Support Your Blog Writers

Blog implementation—Step 2 of 4

Happy writers are critical to success.

Writing blog posts several times a week can become tedious after a while, even for the best writers. It’s important to support the people who contribute content to your blog so they don’t burn out. With well-supported writers, your blog will remain fresh, relevant and interesting for months, even years, after launch.

Support your bloggers

  • Recognize their work, so they know they’re doing a good job.
  • Regularly help them come up with topics and ideas for new content.
  • Provide analytics data, so they know how the blog is performing.
  • Integrate the blog with other marketing and social media efforts, so they see their work as part of a bigger effort.

Switch things up

  • Invite guest bloggers to pinch-hit once in a while (make sure they fully understand all your policies, writing conventions, etc.).
  • Cultivate a team of writers to take turns blogging, so the burden is spread to more than one person.  Consider letting your writing team include their names on their posts.

Take an occasional break

  • After your blog is well-established, it is OK to occasionally go “on vacation” for a short time.
  • If you decide not to have someone else fill in while you’re off, be sure you communicate to your loyal readers that your team is taking a break for a few days, and let people know when they can expect to hear from you again. Don’t be gone too long!

You’ve taken care of your writers, so now it’s time to take care of your readers and decide how you’ll moderate comments.
